The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights, all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur, or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler' s armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana—and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander' s impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects—a secret as devastating as the war itself—as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.

WHERE HAS THIS BOOK BEEN ALL MY LIFE?

I came across this book a while a go and put it on the back burner, where I put all books that seem like their worth reading but don’t scream “READ ME NOW.”

I could slap myself for putting off reading this because it. was. perfection.

Let me ask you something – Do you like historical pieces? Forbidden love? Do you love emotion evoking stories that absorb you and make you lose track of time? If you said yes to any of these questions then READ THIS BOOK.

The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons was lovely. I was in a bit of a reading slump and this book brought me back. I LOVE historical pieces so I was immediately intrigued by this book BUT the synopsis I read didn’t give me enough to want to read it immediately. Now that I have read this book, I want to reread it again, and again, and again, and again…

This book is about a young Russian Girl and a Red Army Soldier, how they meet, fall in love, come together, and survive living in the Soviet Union during a time of war. This is the story of a hero and a heroine. Both Tatiana and Alexander’s characters have so much depth that you can’t help but feel what they are feeling. I finished reading this book at 1am because I could not stop reading it and I am still not over it.
