AT THE STROKE OF MIDNIGHT, THE HEAT BEGINS

On a hot southern night, with a storm on the horizon, a family is shattered. Three beautiful daughters—Savannah, Samantha, and Sabrina Wilde—go on with their lives, each significantly changed, as they bear the memory of the murder-suicide that killed their parents. For years, they have stayed away from Midnight, Alabama. Until Midnight calls them home.

Savannah is the first one back, when a grueling case in Nashville leads the young prosecutor to seek shelter in the quiet of the once grand Wilde mansion. But when she finds letters casting doubt on her family' s dark, shameful past, she realizes that peace in Midnight is a shallow façade and sinister secrets lurk beneath the surface. Zach Tanner, once the town' s bad boy, is now the new police chief and still has a wild hold over her. Zach can feel it, too, but he hurt Savannah once. As teenagers, they broke every rule together. Now it' s his job to keep her safe, even though he isn' t sure who her enemies are—or which ones might be his own.

My thoughts…

Midnight Secrets is the debut book by author Ella Grace aka Christy Reece. If you’re a fan of Christy, I highly suggest reading Midnight Secrets. This is going to be a fantastic series.

I loved both Zach and Savannah from the very beginning. Both from the same town, Midnight, Alabama, their backgrounds are completely different. While Savannah and her sisters Sabrina and Samantha are from a highly regarded family in Midnight, Zach is from a family that’s frowned upon. His mother is the town whore and everybody knows it. Savannah is a senior in high school. Zach has already graduated and is looking forward to leaving Midnight for a career in the military.

While attending a high school dance with her sisters, Savannah decides she’s ready to leave the dance when her date gets drunk. When she leaves the school and is searching the parking lot for her sisters a group of boys surround her. Enter Zach Tanner. When he drives by the school he notices the boys and the girl they have surrounded. Knowing their intentions are anything but good he stops and confronts them. After setting the boys straight, he then takes Savannah home. She calls him her hero and invites him to breakfast the next morning.

The chemistry between Savannah and Zach is electric from the beginning. I liked the fact that even though Savannah was from a well to do family she treats Zach like he’s her equal. Their relationship while frowned upon by others in the town is sweet and I found myself rooting for both of them. After Zach leaves town to join the military without saying goodbye to Savannah she is devastated. He tries to get in touch with him but he won’t take her phones calls.

Fast forward ten years. Savannah comes home to Midnight to make arrangements for the sale of the home she grew up in. It’s then she runs into Zach. He’s now the town’s police chief. Savannah finds herself caught off guard when she see’s him. Both are still in love with each other but circumstances are much different this time around. I loved how these two danced around each other at first. When they finally acted upon their feelings for each other the sparks flew. I was so happy they became a couple again.

Within this story there are a few twists and turns. One of the twists I figured out on my own but the others I was surprised and didn’t see them coming. Those surprising elements are what makes the story that much more intriguing. You’ll find yourself turning pages quickly to find out how things turn out.

Overall I’m very happy with how things ended with this story. I’ll be not so patiently waiting for the next book entitled Midnight Lies which releases September 24, 2013. It’s going to be a long wait. There will be a third book in this series. I’m unsure of the name and release date at this time.
