SOMETIMES WRONG IS OH-SO-RIGHT

After a wrenching loss, Ben McDaniel tried to escape his grief by working in dangerous, war-torn places like Africa and the Middle East. Now he's back in his hometown and face-to-face with Aubrey Wellington, the hot-as-hell woman who is trouble with a capital T. Family and friends insist she's not the one to ease his pain, but Aubrey sparks an intense desire that gives Ben hope for the future.

Determined to right the wrongs of her past, Aubrey is working hard to make amends. But by far, the toughest challenge to her plan is sexy, brooding Ben - even though he has absolutely no idea what she's done . . .

Can this unlikely couple defy the odds and win over the little town of Lucky Harbor?

reviewMy thoughts…

I loved this book! Ms Shalvis has written another great story that fits nicely into the Lucky Harbor series. In case you didn’t know, the Lucky Harbor series is one of my favorite contemporary romance series. Each book not only features a hot alpha hero, but beautiful heroines to boot. Most of which are sassy in their own way. To say I love this series is an understatement. You can always count on Ms Shalvis to deliver a funny story that will keep you chuckling.

Both Ben & Aubrey were secondary characters in previous books. I really liked both of them and enjoyed getting to know them better in this book. Together these two make for an unlikely couple in my opinion. Where Ben is quiet and sort of reserved, Aubrey is more feisty. Ben has spent the better part of the last five years away from Lucky Harbor. He lost his late wife in a car accident. Since then he takes jobs far away from home so he’s not reminded of what he lost. After a bit of bad luck Aubrey, is trying to balance the karma scales. She’s decided to make a list and try to make amends to those she’s wronged.

The attraction between these two is apparent from the beginning. I enjoyed watching them dance around each other. I knew it was only a matter of time before they acted on that attraction and I couldn’t wait. When they do come together things heat up nicely. The sexual scenes are comparable to adult mainstream, but are still hot all the same.

Overall, I think this is a great addition to the Lucky Harbor series. The plot was intriguing and once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. Up next is It’s in His Kiss. It’s Sam’s book and after reading the synopsis it sounds like another great read. I can’t wait to read it. It’s due out later this year.

THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING

After dropping out of pastry school and messing up her big break on a reality cooking show, Leah Sullivan needs to accomplish something in her life. But when she returns home to Lucky Harbor, she finds herself distracted by her best friend, Jack Harper. In an effort to cheer up Jack's ailing mother, Dee, Leah tells a little fib - that she and Jack are more than just friends. Soon pretending to be hot-and-heavy with this hunky firefighter feels too real to handle . . .

No-strings attachments suit Jack just fine - perfect for keeping the risk of heartbreak away. But as Jack and Leah break every one of their "just friends" rules, he longs to turn their pretend relationship into something permanent. Do best friends know too much about each other to risk falling in love? Or will Jack and Leah discover something new about each other in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

My thoughts…

I’ve been waiting a long time for this one. I love both Leah and Jack. They’ve been in previous books and I couldn’t wait to read their story.

Leah is a pastry chef who doesn’t ever complete anything. It stems from her youth when her father would constantly berate her and tell her things like “You’ll never amount to nothing” or “You never finish anything you start.” At the beginning of this book she has just walked away from culinary school where she only had three weeks left to graduate.

Jack. He’s one of the town’s most eligible bachelors. He’s a hot fireman. *sigh* He’s also a bit of a ladies man. He has commitment issues. He tends to break things off before things progress to far. A relationship guy he is not.

Jack and Leah have been friends for years. They lived next door to each other when they were younger. When Leah’s dad would mistreat her she would sneak into Jack’s bedroom where he would comfort and protect her.

When Leah comes back to Lucky Harbor to help her ill grandmother run her bakery things start to get interesting. There’s an attraction between Jack and Leah, but neither is willing to take the first step. They sort of dance around each other which made for an interesting read. I was like come on guys, get with the program. 🙂

When Leah’s gets a bright idea on how to perk Jack’s ill mother up things get a little crazy. She tells his mother than she and Jack are actually dating. This takes Jack completely off guard when he’s informed of it. His reaction is really quite comical.

See that’s the thing with Ms Shalvis’ writing style. She is really good at writing sweet contemporary romance novels that are light and funny. This element makes her books that much more enjoyable.

I really enjoyed how things progressed in Jack & Leah’s fake relationship. Even though their relationship was suppose to be fake, their feelings for each other got stronger.

Ms Shalvis added an element of suspense to this one. I was able to figure out the person who “did it” before all was revealed towards the end though. I’m just good like that lol

Overall, this one was really enjoyable. I’m such a big fan of this of the books that make up the Lucky Harbor series. If you are a fan of sweet and funny contemporary romance I highly suggest giving this series a try.

Ali Winters is not having a good day. Her boyfriend left her, everyone in town thinks she's a thief, and now she's about to be kicked out of her home. Her only shot at keeping a roof over her head and clearing her name is to beg for help from a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern....

After a high-profile case goes wrong, Luke Hanover returns to his hometown for some peace and quiet. Instead he finds a bombshell brunette in a heap of trouble. As he helps Ali put her world back together, the pieces of Luke's own life finally seem to fall into place. Is this the start of a sizzling fling? Or are Luke and Ali on the brink of something big in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

My thoughts…

I loved this one! It Had to Be You is a funny contemporary romance that’s sure to touch your heart. It’s book #7 in the Lucky Harbor series by author Jill Shalvis.

Both Ali & Luke aren’t looking for love. Ali’s boyfriend has dumped her, she’s lost her job, and she doesn’t have a place to live anymore since the lease on her boyfriends house is up.

Enter Luke Hanover. He’s the owner of said house and walks in on Ali while she’s on the phone with the ex-boyfriend. Did I mention she’s dressed in only her bra and panties?

Right from the beginning these two shared a strong attraction. Neither is looking to get involved but sometimes things don’t happen the way you plan for them too.

The sexual scenes within this book are relatively mainstream and not overly explicit.

The suspense element kept me guessing until the very end. I never did figure it out until it was revealed. I love books like that.

Next up is Leah & Jack’s story and I can’t wait to read it.

If you haven’t read the Lucky Harbor series you are seriously missing out. It’s one of my favorite series.

JUST ONE MORE KISS

There's no place like home for the holidays. And the Lucky Harbor Bed & Breakfast is bursting with festive lights and good cheer. But for Mia, Christmas is turning out to be anything other than merry and bright. Her recent break-up with her boyfriend Nick has made her return bittersweet. But then a surprise arrives, when Nick follows her to town bearing gifts-and asking for forgiveness.

Nick grew up without a family of his own so he's overwhelmed by the love that Mia receives from all her relatives, gathered together to celebrate the season. Under their watchful eyes, Nick finds earning back her trust the hardest thing he's ever had to do. If he succeeds, he will receive the greatest gift of all, Mia's love for a lifetime.

My thoughts…

Just in time for the holidays comes Under The Mistletoe. This novella length story is part of The Lucky Harbor series by Ms. Shalvis.

Mia and Nick share a common bond. They were both given up at birth. Mia was adopted by a wonderful couple while Nick hadn’t been so lucky.

I really enjoyed these two. They have great chemistry together. As the story progressed it was refreshing to see them overcome their fears of committing.

Under The Mistletoe was a short but sweet read. The Lucky Harbor series is one of my favorites and is on my auto-buy list. I love it so much that I don’t even have to read the blurb because I know it is going to be amazing.

Kick off your holiday season by reading Under The Mistletoe. You’ll be so happy you did.

In one fell swoop, Maddie loses her boyfriend (her decision) and her job (so not her decision). But rather than drowning her sorrows in bags of potato chips, Maddie leaves L.A. to claim the inheritance left by her free-spirited mother-a ramshackle inn nestled in the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington.

Starting over won’t be easy. Yet Maddie sees the potential for a new home and a new career-if only she can convince her two half-sisters to join her in the adventure. But convincing Tara and Chloe will be difficult because the inn needs a big makeover too.

The contractor Maddie hires is a tall, dark-haired hottie whose eyes-and mouth-are making it hard for her to remember that she’s sworn off men. Even harder will be Maddie’s struggles to overcome the past, though she’s about to discover that there’s no better place to call home than Lucky Harbor.

My thoughts…

In one word, AMAZING! I loved everything about this book. Ms Shalvis has crafted what I would call the perfect story. The characters of the book were realistic, the plot was excellent and the story is well written. I loved Maddie Moore and her sisters. Not having spent a lot of time with her two half-sisters over the years, Maddie heads to the small town of Lucky-Harbor, Washington where she plans to claim her inheritance. She’s lost her job, broke up with her boyfriend and intends to start over with her life. I found her to be strong, independent and an all around good girl.

Maddie’s inheritance is part ownership in the Lucky Harbor Resort. The Resort is a bit of a mess when she first sees it and both her sisters, Chloe and Tara immediately want to sell it instead of fixing it up but Maddie has other plans for the resort. When she first shows up in Lucky-Harbor, she nearly runs over Jax, who’s a former lawyer, the town’s mayor, a contractor and owns several small businesses within the town. From their first encounter the chemistry between these two sizzles. Jax is dreamy. He’s tall, leanly muscled with broad shoulders and has eyes the color of caramel.

Simply Irresistible is a story of sisterhood, friendship and love. I enjoyed getting to know all three sisters, Jax and all of the secondary characters. Ms Shalvis is planning on writing stories for both Tara and Chloe and I can’t wait to read them. I can’t say enough good things about this book. I will definitely recommend it to all my friends and family.
