This is NOT your typical Hollywood romance. There are NO virgins falling for actors. There are NO celebrities falling for the girl next door. What there IS, is a damaged girl who is rescued by the sexy Drew Forrester. Can they get past her secret? Or his?Sydney Allen is trying to be your average 24 year old New Yorker. It' s hard to be average though when your mother is Evangeline Allen, an Oscar winning actress known as “America' s Sweetheart” to moviegoers across the globe. It' s even harder to be average when your dad is Reid Tannen, Hollywood Bad Boy and one of the highest paid actors in the world.
Their divorce when Sydney was 12 years old was set off by a series of haunting incidents that left Sydney scarred mentally and physically. Hollywood destroyed her parents' marriage and almost destroyed her. She hasn't owned a TV, read magazines or watched movies since the divorce, refusing to take part in an industry that brought her so much pain.
Now 12 years after her mother took her from LA and hid her in New York to keep her safe, no one but her best friend Leah knows who Sydney is or that her parents are famous movie stars and she' s determined to keep it that way. She guards her identity fanatically, not letting anyone get close enough to her to find out who she is.
When Sydney meets the gorgeous but mysterious Drew Forrester at a crowded coffee shop one morning, her life changes. It' s time for her to decide if he' s worth sharing her secret with, or if she' s better off being alone forever. Or maybe she' ll find out that she' s not the only one hiding something. Dating Drew, Sydney is forced to confront all of her fears at once; celebrity, fame, tabloids, stalkers. Can she survive another high profile exposure to the world?
Sydney Allen grew up as the child of Hollywood’s IT couple..Until her mother took her away from all of that age 12. Twelve years later and Sydney is still letting her parents divorce affect her life in ways it shouldn’t. She has some serious walls up and doesn’t let anyone in. The only person who has an in with her is her best friend Leah. She still talks to her mother, but she hasn’t seen or talked to her dad since her mother up and moved her from LA to NYC when she as 12. She’s hides behind her mother’s maiden name, so no one will know she’s Reid Tannen’s daughter.
First off, I don’t get why people don’t realize that she’s who she is. Especially those who hire her mother’s design company and have a Sydney working on their project. You and I both know that these people are aware that Evangaline Allen has a daughter named Sydney..and it’s just a coincidence that the person who is heading their Design Projects is named Sydney ALLEN? Really? That’s just as annoyingly obvious as Clark Kent having to only take off a pair of glasses and a tie to be Superman. COME ON. lol.
That was the only thing that bothered me about this book…
Other than that, I LOVED THIS BOOK. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down! I didn’t go to bed until it was finished!! That’s saying something! This book and the characters were very well written. While sometimes Sydney’s anti-social behavior drove me a little batty, I totally understood why she was that way. I would probably be that way too if I had gone what she went through. Though maybe I would’ve at least tried to contact my dad after some point to ask WHY? But she never did that.. I think if she had, she would’ve started healing emotionally a lot sooner in life.. Of course, if she had done that..she probably would’ve met Andrew and not Drew..
DREW WAS YUM. He was an amazing, protective, sweet, attentive..and really good at hiding a secret. Which you can’t fault him for, seeing as Sydney has a few of her own she’s keeping from him. Drew seems to be really good for Sydney, I think he’s helping her heal emotionally because she wants to open up to him and let him in. She finally decides to come clean about her past to Drew on his birthday before they attend the Grand Opening event for the Club she’s been working on. Drew, being held up in flight delays, doesn’t make it back to NYC in time. Before he gets a chance to meet up with her at the Star-studded event, the shit hits the fan. Seriously.
I really did enjoy this book a lot and I seriously cannot wait to read the next one in the series!! Thank you so much to Heather Leigh for allowing me to read and review this book! I definitely suggest you check it out, it’s FREE on Amazon, B&N, Kobo & iTunes!! You can’t beat that!
