On May 15, 1975, fifteen-year-old Ginny Lemon is abducted from a convenience store in Fort Lauderdale by a member of one of the most notorious and brutal motorcycle gangs in South Florida.
From that moment on, her life is forever changed. She gets a new name, a new identity and a new life in the midst of the gang’s base on the edge of the Florida Everglades—a frightening, rough and violent world much like the swamps themselves, where everyone has an alias and loyalty is tantamount to survival.
And at the center of it all is the gang’s leader, Grizz: massive, ruggedly handsome, terrifying and somehow, when it comes to Ginny, tender. She becomes his obsession and the one true love of his life.
So begins a tale of emotional obsession and manipulation, of a young woman ripped from everything she knows and forced to lean on the one person who provides attention, affection and care: her captor. Precocious and intelligent, but still very much a teenager, Ginny struggles to adapt to her existence, initially fighting and then coming to terms with her captivity.
Will she be rescued? Will she escape? Will she get out alive—or get out at all? Part psychological thriller, part coming-of-age novel, filled with mystery, romance and unexpected turns, Nine Minutes takes readers into the world of one motorcycle gang and inside the heart of a young girl, whose abduction brought about its fall.
Wow! This book was amazing! Well, if you can overlook an adult having sex with a fifteen year old. Normally I would have DNF’d the book right away, but after reading tons of reviews I knew I was going to go ahead and read it anyway. And honestly I’m glad I did.
There are so many layers to this story. I was hooked from the very first page. I can honestly say this book is easily one of the best books I’ve read in 2015. The plot, the interesting characters, the flow of the story were all masterly crafted by Ms Flynn. There wasn’t a single time while I was reading this book that I wanted to skim. I was devouring the pages as quickly as I possibly could. I was just so caught up in these characters that I had to know .what was going to happy next.
Speaking of characters… I liked all but a couple of them in this book. Most were interesting in their own right. Ms Flynn did a wonderful job building their back stories. I think that’s why I was so hooked on this book. With each turn of the pages I learned more and more about them. It felt like I couldn’t get enough of them. And the plot… Oh the plot. Unique and and addicting.
Overall, I am so happy I went ahead and read Nine Minutes. I’m going to start book two, Out of Time. There’s also suppose to be a book three that’s releasing sometime in 2016. I’m hoping it’s not far away. Out of Time released July 21, 2015 so maybe it won’t be long.
