Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

I can’t believe that it’s the end of the Wait For You series!! I love these characters and I’m sad to see this series getting a wrap!

We’ve met Brock and Jillian in previous books of the Wait For You series. Jillian is a bit younger than the rest of the crew in this series and last we saw her she was crushing hardcore on Brock, all the while, Brock just saw her as a little sister.

This book takes place about six years after the rest of the series. Jillian is working in insurance and hasn’t seen Brock in those six years. The reason why being that the one night she decides to tell Brock how she feels about him, he pretty much blows her off. Minutes later after she leaves the Mona’s after she had been waiting for him, her life dramatically changes and definitely NOT IN A GOOD WAY.

Now it’s six years later and Jillian is still trying to get past the tragic event that she went through.. She finally decides to take a job at her father’s MMA training academy, only later finding out that Brock is her boss…and little does she know Brock has finally realized that she’s more than just a “kid sister” to him…

OH MY GOD. Why is this series over? I can’t get enough of Cam and Avery! They’re my favorite couple out of this entire series! As I was writing up this review I realized that this entire story is pretty much an epilogue for the entire series, while Brock and Jillian’s story is the main story line..you definitely get to see what the rest of the gang has been up to in the last 6 years.. I really loved that aspect of this story.. Although View Spoiler »

Jennifer did an amazing job with this story and I loved both Jillian and Brock.. Jillian had me crying in the first chapter and every chapter after that. Every time she revisited that night and we learned a little more about what happened I had tears running down my face. Jennifer really got the best of my emotions with this book. Brock seemed like a total player with a bright future in MMA when we first met him in the earlier series..but he’s definitely grown up since then. He wasn’t right for Jillian back then, but he’s definitely perfect for her now.

Thank you so much for this beautiful series, Jennifer. I can’t believe it’s over now. 🙁

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans comes a sizzling new contemporary romance.

He's won the hearts of millions. But is he willing to lose his?

I met the president’s son when we were both young. Matthew Hamilton was handsome, polished, and intelligent. I’d never met a guy like him.

He promised me that he’d never run for president. I promised that if he did, I’d be by his side.

Three terms later, an invitation to join Matthew Hamilton’s campaign is the most exhilarating opportunity I’ve ever experienced. I'm determined to make a difference; he is determined to win.

Focused on his goal, Matt is steadfast, ruthless, and disarming. All eyes are on him and his popularity is surging. But soon, the next possible president of the United States is possessing me in more ways than one—and despite the risks, I'm helpless to resist.

We're stealing touches, stealing moments, and stealing away at night. But our chemical connection is quickly becoming dangerously combustive, putting not only my heart, but Matt's chance at the presidency on the line.

Winning will take everything. Walking away will be the hardest thing of all.

I started this book the night before I was set to leave on vacation…I read until I couldn’t keep my eyes open..and then I woke up the next morning with a mile long list of things to do and pack before I left on a trip and instead of doing that, I sat down with my iPad and finished Mr. President. Let’s just say I left for my trip HOURS after I planned on doing so. Oops. 🙂 But this book was just THAT GOOD.

Charlotte was only eleven the first time she met Matt Hamilton. His father (then president) Lawrence Hamilton, brought him along to a dinner at Charlotte’s family’s home. Although Charlotte wasn’t originally supposed to attend the dinner she somehow talked her parents into letting her join. Good thing she did, because that dinner pretty much sealed her destiny. Charlotte was so charmed by Matt that she wrote him a letter after the dinner telling him that if he ever decided to run for president he had her vote and she’d even be willing to join his campaign..

Many years later, It appears that Matt was also charmed by Charlotte because he remembers her and her letter and calls on her offer 10+ years ago to join his campaign…and this is where the story really begins.

Though Charlotte doesn’t originally accept the offer to join the campaign, after re-thinking it she calls his campaign manager and accepts the position because she wants to be a part of History. She comes on as a political aide but is soon given a promotion that brings her on the campaign trail with Matt. It’s here where the two start up a secret romance even though they’re both afraid of any “scandal” that may come of it. Charlotte loves her country and Matt too much to make him choose her.

his-voice

I didn’t realize this was going to be a “series” until I got to the end. Good thing though, because I didn’t get enough of the characters. I can’t wait to see what becomes of Matt and Charlotte’s relationship.. I hope that Matt realizes that maybe romancing Charlotte will be good for his public image. The public loves a good love story and he could totally use it to his advantage.

I know you might be sick of Politics in the real world, but give this book a chance. You won’t be disappointed! It’s an intoxicating story that’ll have you casting your vote for Matt Hamilton as President by the time you’re done!

A lady imprisoned by deafness, an architect imprisoned by his past, and a ghost imprisoned within the petals of a flower - intertwine in this love story that transcends life and death.

For most of her life, nineteen-year-old Juliet Emerline has subsisted – isolated by deafness – making hats in the solitude of her home. Now, she’s at risk to lose her sanctuary to Lord Nicolas Thornton, a twenty-seven-year-old mysterious and eccentric architect with designs on her humble estate. When she secretly witnesses him raging beside a grave, Juliet investigates, finding the name “Hawk” on the headstone and an unusual flower at the base. The moment Juliet touches the petals, a young English nobleman appears in ghostly form, singing a song only her deaf ears can hear. The ghost remembers nothing of his identity or death, other than the one name that haunts his afterlife: Thornton.

To avenge her ghostly companion and save her estate, Juliet pushes aside her fear of society and travels to Lord Thornton’s secluded holiday resort, posing as a hat maker in one of his boutiques. There, she finds herself questioning who to trust: the architect of flesh and bones who can relate to her through romantic gestures, heartfelt notes, and sensual touches … or the specter who serenades her with beautiful songs and ardent words, touching her mind and soul like no other man ever can. As sinister truths behind Lord Thornton’s interest in her estate and his tie to Hawk come to light, Juliet is lured into a web of secrets. But it’s too late for escape, and the tragic love taking seed in her heart will alter her silent world forever.

International and NYT bestselling author, A.G. Howard, brings her darkly magical and visual/visceral storytelling to Victorian England. The Architect of Song is the first installment in her lush and romantic Haunted Hearts Legacy series, a four book gothic saga following the generations of one family as - haunted by both literal and figurative ghosts - they search for self-acceptance, love, and happiness.

New Adult: Recommended for ages 16+.

*Sings in A minor to my Russian Blue cat using an operatic voice, “Why? Whhhhyyy didn’t I love this book- the book release of my obsession!?!?”*

When I saw the cover of A.G. Howard’s newest novel, The Architect of Song, I instantly coveted it. So, obviously, I was thrilled when I received a digital ARC for review. Despite my excitement for the novel, I made sure not to raise any ridiculous expectations that might ruin my reading experience. I have not read the author’s popular Splintered series yet, so I also did not know what to expect from her writing style.

To put it briefly, A.G. Howard’s writing is beautiful. There were sentences and descriptions in TAoS that dazzled me with their lyricism and poetic overtones. Her writing conjured images of jewel-toned velvets, Gothic architecture, and fairy-tale settings. Lovely descriptions made the story pop.

Crimson Peak is full of decadent eye candy and Howard's descriptions reminded me of the beautiful imagery from this film.
Crimson Peak is full of decadent eye candy and Howard’s descriptions reminded me of the beautiful imagery from this film.

Unfortunately, the romance at the heart of the novel fell completely flat for me. If I had rated this book on that aspect alone, it would have been 1.5 stars. I am a die-hard otherworldly lover/love triangle fan, but neither of these aspects drew me in or held my attention in TAoS. The dynamic between the characters was cheesy to me. It was like rushed lust that masqueraded as love by the end of the story. When I think of a gothic romance, I anticipate the wonderful yet torturous build up of passion and romance between the love interests. I didn’t really get this from TAoS.

Also, I feel like the title is a tad misleading. I thought music or singing was going to play a bigger role in the book, but it doesn’t. The music fan in me was disappointed by this.

I am still completely in love with the idea of this book and series, and I look forward to the next book in the Haunted Hearts Legacy to see if there has been any improvement in the development of the romantic thread.

Just for fun:

If you are into paranormal romances and Victorian era settings, than I highly recommend C.J. Archer’s Emily Chambers Spirit Medium series and The Freak House series. Both trilogies are to die for, but The Medium trilogy comes closest to TAoS. C.J. Archer does an amazing job of building up romantic tension between the human and ghost love interest, and is an absolute master of writing about the Victorian time period.

"Boardwalk Empire" meets "Downton Abbey" in this soft-boiled Jazz Age mystery, inspired by actual events. Real-life rival gangs fight over booze and bars during Prohibition in 1920s Galveston, Texas—the “Sin City of the Southwest.”

Jasmine Cross, a 21-year-old society reporter, feels caught between two clashing cultures: the seedy speakeasy underworld and the snooty social circles she covers in the Galveston Gazette. After a big-shot banker with a hidden past collapses at the Oasis—as speakeasy secretly owned by her black-sheep half-brother, Sammy Cook—Jazz suspects foul play. Was it an accident or a mob hit?

Soon handsome young Prohibition Agent James Burton raids the Oasis, threatening to shut it down if Sammy doesn't cooperate. Suspicious, he pursues Jazz, hoping for information (and some romance), but she refuses to rat on Sammy.

As turf wars escalate between the Downtown and Beach gangs, Sammy is accused of murder. To find the killer, Jazz must risk her life and career, exposing the dark side of Galveston’s glittering society. Now available in a revised trade paperback version with a glossary of 1920s slang.

Flapper Cover Original

I discovered Ellen Mansoor Collier’s Jazz Age Mystery series while doing some Historical research of my own, and by God, I feel like I struck gold, babies! GOLD!

We’ve all read the 1920s Historical Fiction set in New York, Chicago, Paris, New Orléans, but I never would have thought about experiencing the Jazz Age via Galveston, Texas until I read Flappers Flasks, and Foul Play. To be honest (I admit with my head hung in shame), the only history I really knew about Galveston had to do with The 1900 Storm that devastated the city.

The author’s smart and classy writing style keeps the familiar cadence of a ”whodunnit” novel or film noir feature. The female protagonist, Jasmine Cross, is clever and fearless as she plays her investigative cards in two different worlds: the seedy side and the socialite side to solve a crime that hits close to home. With all the moxie of Louis Lane, Jasmine Cross is the kind of strong female character you will find yourself rooting for.

Full of rich historical detail and colorful 1920s slang true to the era, Galveston, the “Ellis Island of the West” jumps off the pages. A fun and entertaining mystery drives the story along, but it was the story world that really won me over. Every aspect- from the cultural climate to the perfume and cosmetic cases- is fully realized and I couldn’t have asked for better world building. It was a special treat to learn so much about Prohibition era Galveston while having the pleasure of enjoying the fictional story that facts are built around. Hardcore History and Mystery Lovers alike will fall head over heels for this series, and general readers will be enlightened and entertained.

Flappers, Flasks and Foul Play left me fiending for more mystery and mayhem steeped in rich historical context. Luckily for me (and YOU), I can indulge myself in the next three books in this series: Bathing Beauties. Booze and Bullets, Gold-Diggers, Gamblers and Guns, and Vamps, Villains, and Vaudeville.

Third baseman Drake Schultz is the undisputed bad boy of the New York Kings. So it's no surprise when Major League Baseball suspends him for taking performance-enhancing drugs. Furious with their superstar, the front office issues an ultimatum: either work with their sober companion or kiss the rest of his quarter-billion-dollar contract goodbye. Cocky and arrogant, Drake resists being saddled with a live-in babysitter—even one he's insanely attracted to.

Drake is Eva Sloane's first celebrity client as a substance abuse counselor, and she knows she's in trouble when he starts tempting her at every turn. The way he looks at her is as hot as sin, but she refuses to become his new drug of choice. Slowly, she helps him realize he has to face the demons from his past and heal his tortured spirit before he can even think about satisfying any craving he has for her

Ok I have to start off by saying that I didn’t even KNOW this was a part of a series until AFTER I finished this book. I’m kind of upset by that fact. I wish I could have read the first four books before reading this.

Oh well, that’s fine I guess. I didn’t feel like I was jumping in to a story that’s already in progress when I started this book so that’s a very good thing about this story. It obviously can be read as a standalone. 🙂

Now let’s get to the story: Drake Schultz is the bad boy on the New York Kings. He appears to have been the bad boy on the team. He’s a total jerk to his teammates and doesn’t let any one get close to him. That is until his luck changes and he finds himself being suspended from baseball for eighty games and he’s in neutral territory with the girl that catches his eye every time she’s sitting behind the dugout at one of the Kings’s games.

Eva Sloan is a substance abuse counselor and her newest client is her favorite player from the New York Kings. She’s ready to take on Drake and help him kick his Performance Enhancing Drug habit. Not only that but she’s also taken on the job of showing Drake his worth. He’s more than just a baseball player and she does everything she can to show him that there’s more to his life than just baseball and drugs.

Boy, Drake sure has some serious issues he needs to work through and Eva is all about it, but she totally goes about it the wrong way. It seems that she’s an intelligent girl, but when she does everything she can to get Drake to face his demons from the past, she doesn’t see how dangerous it can be. Every time she pushed the issue of going to Kentucky, I just about screamed at my iPad like, “Are you that stupid, Eva?” Don’t you know what kind of shit you can get both of you in to by doing this?” But unfortunately, characters never listen to me when I yell at this.
Oh well, in the end, it all works out. 😉

Other than Eva being a little oblivious at times, I really enjoyed both of these characters. It was an interesting read and a gives you a good look at the things you forget happen backstage in the world of baseball.

I liked this book a lot and I’m definitely about to check out the rest of the series. I’ll be reading them with the Detroit Tigers playing in the background, as they usually are my background noise during my evening reading in the summer. 😉 Woohoo for baseball romances! 😀

About Collette West

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette’s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers.

Nothing has ever come easy for Lila Bailey. She’s fought for every good thing in her life during every day of her thirty-one years. Aside from that one night with an impossible to deny stranger a year ago, Lila is the epitome of responsible.

Steadfast. Strong.

She’s pulled herself out of the train wreck of her childhood, proud to be a professor at Tulane University and laying down roots in a city she’s grown to love. But when some of her female students are viciously murdered, Lila’s shaken to the core and unsure of whom she can trust in New Orleans. When the police detective assigned to the murder case comes to investigate, she’s even more surprised to find herself staring into the eyes of the man that made her toes curl last year.

In an attempt to move on from the tragic loss of his wife, Asher Smith moved his daughter and himself to a new city, ready for a fresh start. A damn fine police lieutenant, but new to the New Orleans force, Asher has a lot to prove to his colleagues and himself.

With a murderer terrorizing the Tulane University campus, Asher finds himself toe-to-toe with the one woman that haunts his dreams. His hands, his lips, his body know her as intimately as he’s ever known anyone. As he learns her mind and heart as well, Asher wants nothing more than to keep her safe, in his bed, and in his and his daughter’s lives for the long haul.

But when Lila becomes the target, can Asher save her in time, or will he lose another woman he loves?

Erin’s Review

Oh my, I think I liked this novella better than the last few books in the With You in Seattle series. Being that is a novella, this story went by so quick, I was sad when it ended. I wish that we would have gotten more time with Lila, Asher and Casey. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and their backstories. Especially Asher & Casey’s story. They’ve been through a lot and it’s really quite heartbreaking when you learn about what happened to his wife and Casey’s mother. I’m so glad that they found Lila, I think she was great for both Asher & Casey. 🙂

One thing that I really liked about this book was bringing the case that Asher is working on into the story. It added  a bit of mystery and some suspense to the story. I think Kristen should do some more of that in the future. A little suspense always makes the story more interesting. 😉

While we’re in New Orleans getting to know Lily & Asher, we get a little visit with Matt & Nic when they came in to town from Seattle to visit Asher, as well as catch up a bit with Eli & Kate from Easy Love. Easy With You did a great job of blending both the With You in Seattle series (We first met Asher in Matt story, Tied With you, as he was Matt’s partner.) with the Boudreaux series (Lila is Kate’s BFF.) It was a very quick read, but so worth it. I hope that we see these characters some more in the future.

Boy, between this book and Easy Love I really want to visit New Orleans and eat some beignets. Who wants to go with me? 🙂

Thanks to Inkslinger & Kristen Proby for the chance to read and review this book for the blog tour. 😉

Excerpt

“It’s been so long since I had sex, I don’t even know if my vagina still works,” I admit in a whisper, making Kate laugh.

“Trust me, it works.”

“How do you know?”

She simply continues to laugh.

“Good morning, ladies.”

Our heads both whip up at the deep, sexy voice, and I’m suddenly staring at a very sweaty, very half-naked, Asher.

Oh Jesus.

“Good morning,” Kate says beside me, but I’m not paying attention to the words they’re saying. My mouth goes dry at the sight of Asher’s naked torso. He’s wearing running shorts, with his shirt tucked into the waist at his hip. He has earbuds in his ears, leading to his phone in his pocket.

He’s panting from his run, and sweat is running down his forehead, his cheek.

His fucking amazing chest.

One drop of sweat slowly makes its way down his sternum to his chiseled abs, and it takes everything in me to not lean over and lick it off.

Down, girl.

“Lila?”

“What?”

Asher’s eyes are laughing as he props his hands on his hips, watching me. “How are you?”

“Oh, I’m fine.”

Kate snickers beside me, earning a kick to the shin from me.

“You look amazing,” he replies and offers me that half-smile. The one that promises all kinds of amazing naughtiness and has kept me up many a night over the past nine months.

“Thank you,” I murmur. Why am I so shy with him now? That night at the bar, I was confident. I knew exactly what I wanted, and that was him. I wasn’t shy. I didn’t hesitate.

And now I feel tongue-tied and hot.

Probably because now I know what he’s capable of.

The fifth book in the New York Times new adult series that began with Real. When an angry, heartbroken girl is forced to be near her rocker ex-boyfriend, only time will tell if the fire between them will consume them both.

Pandora, the gothic friend of Brooke (Real, Mine, Remy) and Melanie, thought that getting her heart broken by her bad boy rocker ex could only happen once. But now, he's back in town with the biggest concert of the year. Pandora hates him so much that she gets Melanie to come with her and play a prank on him at his gig. But when they are caught by security, and her ex himself is summoned, he decides not to press charges if she'll follow certain conditions. Pandora likes none of his rules, or that he's in charge of her, especially since they seem designed to make sure she's in close contact with him again. But the closeness reignites the passion they once shared, and soon no matter how much she wants to hate him, it's clear she's still hung up on him. And worse: he knows it too.

While I enjoyed this book, I don’t think it was as good as the first four. I guess Remy spoiled the series for me. I mean don’t get me wrong. This was a great read, but to me it didn’t hold my attention as well as the previous books. I didn’t get that “I can’t put it down” feeling.

Pandora is an odd duck. I’ve always felt she was the weird friend. It isn’t that I didn’t like her, because I did. She’s just different. Her and Kenna go way back. Back in high school they were a thing until he abruptly left.

I think the chemistry between them was strong. The sex was hot which is pretty common for all of Katy Evans’ books. The characters really scorch up the sheets. Frequently.

In the end, I was happy with how things turned out for these two. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series. It’s one of my favorites.

I haven't touched a human in three years. That seems like it would be a difficult task, but it's not. Not anymore, thanks to the internet.

I am, quite possibly, the most popular recluse ever. Not many shut-ins have a 200-member fan club, a bank account in the seven-figure range, and hundreds of men lining up to pay for undivided attention.

They get satisfaction, I get a distraction. Their secret desires are nothing compared to why I hide... my lust for blood, my love of death.

Taking their money is easy. Keeping all these secrets... one is bound to escape.

What if you hid yourself away because all you could think of was killing? And what if one girl's life depending on you venturing into society?

This book is a little different then any I’ve read. The synopsis caught my attention and I thought I’d give it a shot. It’s definitely different. I do believe it was self published first and then picked up by a publisher after the author rewrote some of it. I really liked it for the most part. There were a few things I found to be a little bit unrealistic, but not so much that I stopped reading. I guess things could actually happen that way in life. The situation wasn’t a major stretch or anything. I found it interesting to dive into the heroines mind and see how she perceived things. She definitely has her issues.

This is a pretty fast paced book. The plot just keeps building and building and once you reach the end you don’t want it to be over. The ending is pretty much resolved but I do know that their will book at least one more book coming out sometime in 2015. If you’re a fan of suspense I highly recommend this one.

In the land of Hollywood, bright lights cover lies, truths hide in shadows, and the lives of the rich and famous are illusions created by smoke and mirrors.

When costume designer Josie Bane first lays eyes on Anders Ellis, she hates him instantly. Conceited and arrogant, he's the epitome of a Hollywood playboy. So it’s much to Josie’s dismay when he becomes the star of her sexual fantasies.

Never expecting to see him again, she gives in to her desires for a night she’ll never forget. However, Josie soon learns that life is full of surprises. When their paths cross again, sparks fly. With three little words, Anders changes everything.

He’s after one thing.

She refuses to give it to him... again.

When Josie realizes she’s falling for a man that will never let her in but refuses to let her go, she must decide if the risk is worth the reward.

With a relationship shrouded in secrets and outside forces poised to tear them apart, did they ever stand a chance? Before the smoke clears and the curtain falls, Josie and Anders must distinguish between what’s fact and what’s fiction in a place where the truth is never black and white.

I love Hollywood romances so I had to check this book out!

Anders Ellis is a total asshole with an ego bigger than Hollywood. He’s the biggest manwhore known to man, never doing repeats…

Josie Bane is a costume designer in Hollywood, CA. After witnessing a sex scene being shot with Hollywood’s notoriously promiscuous actor, Anders Ellis, Josie finds herself desiring Anders. To the point where she can’t stop having fantasies about him. She decides to go after him in hopes to become one of his One Night Stands so that she can get over the crazy attraction she has for him.

After finding out her next work project has re-cast the Lead role with Anders Ellis and that he doesn’t remember her at all. Josie finds herself angry and embarrassed at that fact, though manages to appear indifferent to Anders. Which piques Anders interest..and then that’s when Anders pursuit to do something he’s never done before starts. He’s on a mission for a repeat..but what he doesn’t realize is that it’ll turn in to more than just one repeat. 🙂

This book is quite long and it took a while for me to get into this book, I honestly almost DNFed it..but it finally got interesting enough to keep my attention.

The story is written in Third Person and it alternates between people. It also does this with no warning what so ever. It’ll go from Josie, to Anders, to everyone else in this story. I think at one time it changed between like 4 different characters within the same page and I just wanted to throw my iPad. When that happens in a book it drives me absolutely batty. I really don’t care for books written in Third Person but when it’s alternating people all of the time, it just makes me loathe it even more! At least **** between characters so I know it’s about to go to another person!

I’m kind of shocked that the “villian” of the story didn’t actually appear until about 34% in the story. Which is one of the reasons why I almost didn’t finish this book..The book didn’t really start getting interesting until the villian appeared. View Spoiler » This person did a good job of adding some more drama to the story and making Anders seem like even more of an Asshole than he already was.

Like I said, this book was actually quite long. It’s also a standalone as well. I enjoyed the characters a lot, I just didn’t like the POV jumping from person to person with no warning. Also, View Spoiler »

If you like Hollywood romances and you’re looking for a book that’ll keep you reading for awhile..definitely check this book out!

Excerpt

“Hello?”

“I don’t know what kind of place Argent is running, but they need to get a handle on their employees.” Anders’ voice was stern and playful, making Josie laugh then sigh.

“I bet it’s the costume department, isn’t it? It is, right? I swear,” she exhaled. “You can’t find good help anywhere these days.”

“It really is quite sad. Is it asking too much for the beautiful Costume Supervisor to be in my trailer wearing only a tie when I walk through the door? For modeling purposes, of course.”

Josie laughed, her heart skipping. “Of course.”

“It feels weird being back.” He spoke quieter, his tone softer.

“I walked outside this morning and my makeup didn’t slide off my face from sweating. It was very disconcerting.”

“Get your ass to my trailer and I’ll have you sweating in no time.”

“Mr. Ellis, that sounds highly unprofessional,” she chastised, grabbing her clipboard and heading toward his trailer. “We both know how you feel about remaining professional on the job.”

“Well I see your smart mouth found its way back to LA.” Anders shook his head, a small smile tugging up the corner of his mouth.

Josie grinned and pushed open his door but continued to speak into her phone. “If I didn’t know better, I’d swear you sound relieved.”

Anders snapped his head to the side, a wicked gleam in his eyes as he stood from his chair, his phone still pressed to his ear. “Relieved is a bit of a stretch. Although, I must admit, I’ve thought of some creative ways to shut you up.”

Josie licked her lips and dropped her phone to her side. “Creative?”

Anders tossed his on the vanity and crossed the room. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her before whispering in her ear.

“You have no idea.”

“I have a few.” Josie grinned and hugged him close, her eyes falling shut and the tightness in her chest loosening for the first time that day.

Anders leaned his forehead against Josie’s. “Is it weird that I missed you?”

“Totally weird. You’re such a freak.” Her tone was playful, but the strain in her voice and the softness in her eyes showed her true feelings.

***WARNING*** This is a racy companion novel to the Famous Series. You should read Relatively Famous  (see review) before reading this book. If you don't like swearing, hot sex, or gorgeous men who release frustrations with their fists, don't read this book.

Drew Forrester is a regular guy from Boston, MA with an unusual job. His work keeps him from getting close to anyone, unwilling to give his trust, especially after a terrible betrayal when he left home at nineteen to pursue his dream.

He throws himself into his work and his favorite way of releasing his frustrations, Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. He resorts to short term hook-ups, figuring he'll be alone forever.

When a gorgeous redhead literally falls into his life, he decides that it's fate and pursues her relentlessly. But this girl is seriously damaged, and keeps secrets that he doesn't understand and can't get her to reveal. Her lack of trust and seeming paranoia about letting anyone get close to her leads Drew to keep some secrets of his own.

This is a companion novel to Relatively Famous, told from Drew's point of view.

I’ve read this entire series and I’ve really enjoyed it. I was sad to see it end with Extremely Famous until it turns out Heather wasn’t done just yet with the series!

Already Famous is Relatively Famous told from Drew’s Point of View.
I know a lot of people don’t like rereading the same story from the male’s POV but, really, sometimes you should! It can make the entire story seem like a new one.

It was quite interesting to see his point on things. He really tried hard to keep the knowledge that he was famous from Sydney. He knew something bad must have happened to her in her past that made her obviously wary of “famous” people.

You really get to know Drew in this story. See how he ticks and this story made me realize that maybe, just maybe, someone should have talked him into anger management classes or therapy. Because it doesn’t take much for him to set him off. Though it is obvious he wouldn’t hurt Sydney or his family, because usually he was angry for them. He gets angry over how his fame affects the people he loves and he just doesn’t seem to handle all of that well. Maybe with therapy, he could handle all of that better. I always thought it was kind of funny though, when he got angry, because he would start talking (or yelling) in his native Boston accent.. and Heather did a good job of conveying the change of his accent into the story.

I really enjoyed this series and I am sad to see the end of Sydney & Drew’s story. Hopefully in the spin off series, Sphere of Irony, we will see these characters again! Thanks to Heather and Love Between The Sheets for allowing me to a part of this Blog Tour. 🙂

One last thing, like I said before….you shouldn’t always overlook reading the story from another POV if you get the chance. Sometimes it will make it a whole new story and it will help you understand what happened in the original story even more.

Sydney Tannen has been living in denial for the last 12 years. Now that she's making a life with Drew Forrester, hiding from her past is no longer an option.

An emotional reunion with her father brings Sydney a peaceful feeling that she hasn't experienced in a long time. Her contentment vanishes quickly with a single phone call. When Sydney finds out that Drew is keeping something huge from her, she throws herself into work to avoid facing the problem.

The stress of Drew's secret, combined with 12 years of carefully constructed denial, comes crashing down spectacularly and Sydney ends up in a hopeless place, alone and afraid. Can she accept her past and face the future? Or is it easier to remain in the dark?

A few months ago I received a review request from an author by the name of Heather Leigh for a book called Relatively Famous (read review). I read the synopsis and jumped on the chance to read this book. She then sent it to me and I DEVOURED THIS BOOK. I couldn’t put it down.  I have since devoured the sequels to this book and have enjoyed the rest of the series immensely.

Heather Leigh does a good job of keeping us entertained with this series.  The characters in this series are well written, well developed and easy to fall in love with. She doesn’t make Sydney and Drew’s relationship easy, they have a lot of hoops to jump through and issues to deal with before the find their Happily Ever After.

While it seems that Sydney and Drew’s story comes to a close in Extremely Famous, The Famous series is far from done! I do believe Heather Leigh will be giving us the stories of some of the other characters that we’ve grown to love in this series as well. I can’t wait to see what she will bring to the table with these other characters!

This is NOT your average Hollywood romance. There are no virgins falling in love with hot actors. There isn’t a famous guy falling for the normal girl next door.

What there IS in this book, is a fragile, damaged girl and the sexy alpha who rescues her.

Sydney Allen is trying to be your average 24 year old New Yorker. It’s hard to be average though when your mother is Evangeline Allen, an Oscar winning actress known as “America’s Sweetheart” to moviegoers across the globe. It’s even harder to be average when your dad is Reid Tannen, Hollywood Bad Boy and one of the highest paid actors in the world.
Their divorce when Sydney was 12 years old was set off by a series of haunting incidents that left Sydney scarred mentally and physically. Hollywood destroyed her parents’ marriage and almost destroyed her. She hasn’t owned a TV, read magazines or watched movies since the divorce, refusing to take part in an industry that brought her so much pain.
Now 12 years after her mother took her from LA and hid her in New York to keep her safe, no one but her best friend Leah knows who Sydney is or that her parents are famous movie stars and she’s determined to keep it that way. She guards her identity fanatically, not letting anyone get close enough to her to find out who she is.
When Sydney meets the gorgeous but mysterious Drew Forrester at a rough MMA training gym one morning, her life changes. It’s time for her to decide if he’s worth sharing her secret with, or if she’s better off being alone forever. Or maybe she’ll find out that she’s not the only one hiding something. Dating Drew, Sydney is forced to confront all of her fears at once; celebrity, fame, tabloids, stalkers. Can she survive another high profile exposure to the world?
*WARNING- contains graphic sexual content and language. This book is intended for adult readers 18+.

This is a hot, celebrity filled, contemporary romance. Do not read if you don’t like alpha men, Hollywood scandals, ripped muscles, or erotic sex scenes. Enjoy!

When he kissed me, I was shocked. He was a stranger and still so familiar. It wasn't until I woke up to my picture splashed on the cover of tabloids that I realized I knew who he was.

Prince Alexander of Cambridge.

Royal bad boy.

Exiled heir to the throne.

He isn't Prince Charming. He's controlling. He's demanding. He's dangerous. And I can't say no to him.

We both have secrets—secrets that could tear us apart or drive us closer together—and as the paparazzi exposes each one, I have to decide just how far I'm willing to go for King and Country.

For readers 18 and up due to mature, erotic scenarios.

Formerly titled For King and Country

OH MY GOD. I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Prince Alexander..or maybe we’ll call him X. He’s the royal version of Christian Grey and he is absolutely YUMMY and maybe just as screwed up.

Clara Bishop is celebrating graduation from Oxford. She comes from new money and is half-american, though she’s an actual british citizen. Her last relationship about broke her and she’s not interested in meeting men. That is, until she stumbles upon a beautiful man smoking a cigar in the smoking room at the Oxford and Cambridge Club.

“Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and good lord, was he smokin’.”

The moment she meets this man, who at this point has no name, the sparks start flying. She’s instantly drawn to him.
omg he's so hot

“He had a face that would make angels weep and gods go to war.”

When she introduces herself, he literally pulls her into him and kisses her. She tries to get a name of out him, so he makes a game of it and in the end she leaves this meeting not knowing his name. She does believe that he looks familiar to her, she’s just not sure where from…

A few days later when a photo of her and the mysterious man snogging shows up in a tabloid, she gets his name. Turns out he is Prince Alexander, Heir to the throne of England.

After a tragic accident that costs the life of Alexander’s sister, Princess Sarah, he’s been exiled to the military where he spends 7 years. He comes back still an outcast, to a family and group of “friends” who are, for lack of a better term, serious ASSHOLES. The only exception there is his brother, Prince Edward.
Alexander is a broken man, who doesn’t want a serious relationship. So when he calls upon Clara a few days after meeting her, they come to an agreement where they’ll date low-key. Having had some bad experiences of her own in the past, Clara isn’t interested in a serious relationship as well, but she does want to act on the chemistry between the two of them..so she agrees to “date” him.
Eventually what is essentially a no-strings attached relationship develops in to something neither one of them bargained for… What will happen now?

This is a great book to read if you’re a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey, like I am, or if you’re a fan of Romances that involve Royalty, oh that’s me too! So when I read the synopsis for this book I knew I had to read it! 😉 Most every girl wants to meet a Prince Charming, even if that Prince has a bit of a dark side… and Alexander definitely has a dark side. I liked Clara she wasn’t like those other female protagonists that annoy the hell out of you. Her best friend, Belle, was great and very supportive of Clara and helped convince her to “date” Alexander! I also really liked Edward, Alexander’s brother. He was there for Clara at times when no one else was.

Oh, and seeing as we’re dealing with the Royal Family…There has to be some stuck up, bitchface luring around the corner..and there is! This girl fools you into thinking she’s a friendly person..but soon you’re all:

that-bitch

Oh man, the sex scenes in this book are SMOKING. They’ll have you fanning yourself in no time. While not a lot of KINKY fuckery is happening in this book, the talk of Clara giving up control to Alexander does come up a bit..and I think if they’re having the sexy times in book two..we’ll probably see a bit more kinky.

One last thing, this book DOES have a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting more!! But no worries, book 2, In His Majesty’s Service, is supposed to be out this fall! So the wait isn’t THAT long.  🙂

We all have someone who crossed our path and fundamentally changed us. That one person who blew through our lives, their presence forever stamped on our psyche. They linger in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in the decisions we make. A soul crusher or a dream maker, depending on the perspective.

My person is MISTER BLACK.
I didn’t know him by that name when I first met him.
I didn’t know him at all, but the impression he left behind was just as powerful as the name I call him today.

He is Black: a deadly enforcer and masterful seducer.
I am Red: a justice bleeder and willing participant.
Together we are passion. Colors colliding through each other’s lives.

When our secrets converge in a passionate encounter,
stepping out of the shadows just might be worth the risk.

NOTE: Mister Black is part 1 of a serial and is approximately 120 print pages.

When I was a kid I had a favorite sugar cereal called Count Chocola. Now, as an adult, I have a favorite steamy serial and it’s called Mister Black.

Mister Black Nutrion Facts

Appearances can be deceiving but the eyes never lie.

When 19 year-old Talia attends a masquerade party in the Hamptons intent on getting the scoop on a big story for her school newspaper, she never imagined she would run into someone from her troubled and distant past. Someone that changed her life and still took up more of her thoughts than she would like to admit.

The handsome young guy with black hair and soul-stirring, mismatched eyes that helped her out of the rain and gave her his coat several years earlier, is now the hot and attractive man pursuing her at the masquerade. At first confident that “Mr.Black” won’t recognize her with a mask on and her freshly died blonde hair, Talia can’t keep the flash of recognition out of her eyes when he speaks to her. Mr. Black is intent on being Talia’s sole entertainment for the rest of the evening and he’ll have her undivided attention by the end of the night.

This fast paced, knee-buckling first installment of the In the Shadows series will whip you into submission and have you begging for more before the last page. Ladies, if you loved Christian Grey, you will COVET Mr. Black.

First off, I don’t get why people don’t realize that she’s who she is. Especially those who hire her mother’s design company and have a Sydney working on their project. You and I both know that these people are aware that Evangaline Allen has a daughter named Sydney..and it’s just a coincidence that the person who is heading their Design Projects is named Sydney ALLEN? Really? That’s just as annoyingly obvious as Clark Kent having to only take off a pair of glasses and a tie to be Superman. COME ON. lol.

That was the only thing that bothered me about this book…

Other than that, I LOVED THIS BOOK. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down! I didn’t go to bed until it was finished!! That’s saying something! This book and the characters were very well written. While sometimes Sydney’s anti-social behavior drove me a little batty, I totally understood why she was that way. I would probably be that way too if I had gone what she went through. Though maybe I would’ve at least tried to contact my dad after some point to ask WHY? But she never did that.. I think if she had, she would’ve started healing emotionally a lot sooner in life.. Of course, if she had done that..she probably would’ve met Andrew and not Drew..

DREW WAS YUM. He was an amazing, protective, sweet, attentive..and really good at hiding a secret. Which you can’t fault him for, seeing as Sydney has a few of her own she’s keeping from him. Drew seems to be really good for Sydney, I think he’s helping her heal emotionally because she wants to open up to him and let him in. She finally decides to come clean about her past to Drew on his birthday before they attend the Grand Opening event for the Club she’s been working on. Drew, being held up in flight delays, doesn’t make it back to NYC in time. Before he gets a chance to meet up with her at the Star-studded event, the shit hits the fan. Seriously.

I really did enjoy this book a lot and I seriously cannot wait to read the next one in the series!! Thank you so much to Heather Leigh for allowing me to read and review this book! I definitely suggest you check it out, it’s FREE on Amazon,  B&N, KoboiTunes!! You can’t beat that!

My thoughts…

Omigosh! I loved, loved, loved this story. It’s easily one of my favorites of 2014. The plot is different from any book that I’ve read before. I was intrigued after reading the synopsis and couldn’t wait to dive into it. Once I got started I had trouble putting it down. I think I could have easily read it in one sitting had I not started it so late in the evening.

This book was highly emotional at times and I became teary eyed a lot while reading it. I love stories that touch my heart. In my opinion they’re the best. The subject matter is one that will make you think about how you would act if you were in a similar situation. I could understand Shelly’s turmoil in deciding what to do. I could also sympathize with Cal because it was an honest mistake. One he doesn’t remember making.

I think one of my favorite things about this story is that Cal and Shelly are part of a close group who’ve been friends since high school. I truly enjoyed getting to know them. Their playful banter had me laughing at times.

The smexy times are comparable to adult mainstream romance. They aren’t overly explicit in nature, but are well written and hot to read.

Overall, I’m really happy that I read this one. I loved the way things worked out in the end and I’m so looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Up next is TJ & Sasha’s story. I have a really good feeling about it.

THIS IS A FOLLOW UP NOVELLA TO PROMISE ME THIS.

Charlie Jennings and Jhett Hudson knew that a single moment could change everything.

It took them one song to find each other, one question to give them a chance, one kiss to fall in love, and one night to almost lose it all. But they had one thing other couples lack - pure, unconditional love - and that takes more than a moment to walk away from.

Falling in love is only the beginning. Forever is what happens next.

review

My thoughts…

The perfect ending to a beautiful love story.

I’m so happy that I’ve was given the opportunity to read and review this novella. I’ve been patiently waiting for it to be released. I really liked Promise Me This which is book one in this series. To say I had really high hopes for this novella would be an understatement.

Initially Promise Me Forever was suppose to be a full novel, but somewhere along the lines a decision was made and it’s been turned into a novella. I wasn’t quite sure if the story would seem rushed since it would be shorter in length, but after reading it I can honestly say that the flow of the story was perfect. I think Ms Jones did a great job covering any and all loose ends where things were concerned, and I am so happy with how things turned out. Jhett and Charlie will forever be one of my favorite couples.

If you have yet to read this series I highly recommend it. It’s a sweet new adult contemporary romance that will touch your heart.

When Tucker Branch, playboy heir to Branch Bolt and Screw, screws and bolts a week before their wedding, Mia Devine wants nothing more than to crawl under her newly monogrammed sheets and plan a funeral for her dignity. But her friends convince her that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, so Mia grits her teeth and packs her bags, determined to make the best of her luxurious Paris honeymoon—alone.

She never planned on meeting Lucas Fournier.

The easygoing bartender’s scruffy good looks and less-than-sympathetic ear annoy her at first, but when she takes him up on his offer to show her around the city, she discovers that the romance of Paris isn’t just a myth.

Nor is the simultaneous O.

The last thing Mia needs is another doomed love affair, but since she only has a week, she figures she might as well enjoy la vie en O with Lucas while she can. But each day—and night—with Lucas is better than the last, and suddenly her heart is telling her this is more than a rebound fling.

Is it just the seduction of Paris…or could this be the real thing?

A week before her big wedding, Mia Devine’s  fiance, Tucker,  calls off their wedding with a text from VEGAS. Which in my opinion was probably the best thing to happen to her..as he has a thing against oral sex and body fluids. Also, it seems like he was the kind of guy who is “Wham, Bam, Thank you Ma’am. I’m sorry you didn’t get off but I must go take a shower because I’m a closted germaphobe.”
Eventually her friends Coco and Erin manage to talk her out of the blanket fort she’s built around herself. From there they try and talk her into taking her booked & paid for honeymoon by herself. Paris is somewhere she’s always wanted to go..so eventually she gives in to her friends and goes.

On her first day in Paris, after walking around witnessing the city of love being in love, Mia can’t take it no more.

“I tried to perk myself up with a stroll along the Seine, but my Independent Woman positivity had fizzled.
Everywhere I looked I saw couples in love.
Fucking everywhere.”

Working herself up into a rage she somehow loses herself in Paris and has no idea where she’s at. She decides she needs wine so she walks a bit more and comes across a bar called The Beaver Bar & Grille. She walks in and looks to see if a proposal is imminent and finds that there doesn’t seem to be much love in the air. The moment Mia walked in to this bar, her life takes a turn for the better and here we meet Lucas. 😀

Lucas is the cute bartender who helps Mia drown her sorrows in a good bottle of wine. He manages to talk her out of taking the first flight back to Detroit and they make a deal. She agrees to give Paris another day and he agrees to spend the day being her tour guide to France.  He’s the complete opposite of what Mia looks for in a guy, but sometimes what you’re looking for isn’t always what you pictured it to be.

I really enjoyed this story. So much so that when I started I didn’t put it down until I was done with it. Good thing I started it on my day off. 😉 It was beautifully written and I fell in love with both Mia and Lucas. I laughed every time Mia, the Queen of list making, started listing off reasons for this and that. Ha. Lucas was WOW. He was amazing, sweet and helped Mia realize that life isn’t always about deadlines. The banter between them was  entertaining and the chemistry was smoking and that lead to sex that was on fire. (whoa kings of leon anyone?)

“Listen. I don’t know what kind of assholes you’ve been with before, but I promise you, your orgasm will not only make an appearance tonight, it will be the star of the show.”

I agree with some of the other reviews out there about the ending seeming like it was rushed, but you know what..I bet we’ll see Mia & Lucas again the future! 😉

Thanks to the author for letting me read and review this book! I really enjoyed it just much as I’ve enjoyed your other books!

You can check out my reviews for the other books in The Academy Series here and a spotlight on C.L. Stone here.

You might want to steal away for a day to read this book.

Dun, dun,  DAA DAA, dun, dun,  DAA DAA, dun DUN! The first chapter of Thief reminded me of the Mission Impossible theme song. It was clever, exciting, and perfect. I found myself imagining certain scenes of Thief set to this music on more than one occasion. Thief is the first in The Scarab Beetle series; an Academy book that takes us into New Adult territory.

Kayli Winchester is a thief- but not because she’s bad, she’s just been dealt a tough hand and is trying to survive. Her mom is deceased and Kayli’s been living out of hotel rooms with her drunk-ass dad and brother Will ever since. Kayli is a thief with a conscience and this quality paired with her undeniable skill to lift a wallet has caught The Academy’s attention.

Kayli is similar to Sang from the first Academy books in only the most basic ways: she comes from a shotty living situation and she has some ”talents” that she doesn’t realize are ”talents” yet. Other than that, Kayli is unique. She’s fearless and embraces her warring emotions about each guy in Thief much easier (and sooner) than Sang does (Thank, God). I really liked that she was much more willing (and maybe eager) to ”test the waters” with more than one guy than Sang was. Kayli is a tough chick and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.

Marc is like a puppy dog. A sexy puppy dog with mismatched eyes that you want to take home with you…or go home with. Marc is the first Academy dude that Kayli formally meets and he also happens to be one of my favorite Academy guys introduced in this story. He has a warm and sincere personality and is eager to make Kayli feel safe and secure.

His hair was rich brown and soft-looking and his skin had a nice tan. And the dark brows complemented his two-toned eyes. He wore a deep blue collared shirt, unbuttoned to reveal the white ribbed tank shirt underneath. His fine sculpted chest was more defined as the tank shirt was snug…..I glanced away, not liking where my thoughts were going staring at his body.

I'm likin' Matt Lanter as the sexy and sweet Marc in Thief.

Marc- Theif- The Academy
Marc- Theif- The Academy

Raven. Ahhhhhhh, Raven. He’s my guilty pleasure in Thief. I guess you could say he’s the perfect balance to safe and thoughtful Marc. Raven is a d-bag but he is OH-SO-HOT. He comes on strong when he first meets Kayli and when she pushes back to deflect his intensity, Raven has no qualms about getting physical with her. It’s the shared time between him and Kayli that I enjoyed most about this book.

He had thick brown hair, cropped short, but left a little long in the front near his face so he had a little bit sticking up. Brown eyes, a couple of days worth unshaven growth around his strong chin. His black tank top revealed heavily tattooed arms…..His deep voice had a gruff tone, like he talked a lot. He had an accent. It almost sounded Russian.

“Hey, Kayli. It’s you and me, girl.”
The yummy Diego Fragoso is not my perfect Rave, but he comes close.
The yummy Diego Fragoso is not my perfect Raven, but he comes close.

The Academy has a job for Kayli, if she’ll take it. The guys want Kayli to get into the pants of a certain Mr. Coaltar but it’s not what you think! They just want her to snatch his wallet.  Mr. Coaltar is the convoluted antagonist in Thief and I found myself drawn to him just as much as my two favorite Academy guys. There’s something fishy about this million-dollar playboy and the Academy has been keeping a close eye on him. Mr. Coaltar’s character is heavy on Southern charm and buttered me up just right. I love it when an author makes me fall for the ”bad guy” as hard as the ”good guy(s)”.

Mr.Coaltar turned.

The world shifted.

His whole appearance was surprising because part of me had expected him to be middle-aged, but he didn’t appear much older than twenty-two or so. A dirty blonde eyebrow arched up. His face was slightly unshaven, but it seemed intentional, making him even more photogenic….And, god forgive me, I paused for a millisecond to admire the view……His eyes dead locked on mine. They were a stunning hazel with flecks of gold around the center.

I could see this hottie pulling off Mr. Coaltar with some Southern charm.
I could see this hottie pulling off Mr. Coaltar with some Southern charm.
"Hey, Kayli. Wanna go for a dip?"
“Hey, Kayli. Wanna go for a dip?”

Thief is like an intense game of chess and cleverly ties into Drop of Doubt in a few scenes. Kayli’s feelings get in the way more than once in this novel and she’s troubled- trying to decide who’s the pawn (her?) and who’s the knight (Academy or Coaltar) in this game of espionage and double-agent she’s gotten herself into. While C.L. Stone uses the same formula to develop Thief as she does with the Ghost Bird series, it’s not redundant; it’s the point. The Academy adopts people who are in less than desirable situations and when you add a girl to the mix of a boys club, things get interesting….And sexy. I didn’t like Thief as much as any of the Ghost Bird series books but the Scarab Beetle series is just warming up. I’m excited for the next Scarab Beetle book, Liar, due out this Summer. I’m challenging C.L. Stone to make me fall for these older Academy fellas as much as I did for our high-school crew. God knows I’m excited as frig about Push and Shove: Ghost Bird Series #6 coming out this June!

A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother's life—and her own.

Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

Sometimes authors CANNOT RESIST picking up a copy of their own book at their local bookstore. Yep. They wrote the darn book but they want to experience it again with fresh eyes, and pretend they are reading it for the first time. This psychological phenomenon leads these same authors to want to review their own books as well. The following is what happens when they do:

In Which Victoria Scott Reviews Her Own Book, Fire & Flood

What is this, FIRE & FLOOD? Okay, I’ll take a crack. Nice cover. Actually, I love that cover.

*opens book and begins reading*

So I’m to believe this teen girl is going to enter a dangerous race to save her brother? Her brother?

Siblings must have different relationships now than they did in my day, because when

I was growing up I wouldn’t have rolled over to save my sibling. There. I said it.

*keeps reading*

The Pandoras are cool. I’m down.

*keeps reading*

I’m sorry, am I reading this right? Leeches? Effing leeches? What a cheap trick to try and

entertain readers. Lame. Wait, who’s the new guy? Titus? He seems like a good chap.

Titus is not a good chap.

Titus is going to kill everyone.

*keeps reading*

Nope, I guess he’s not.

*closes book*

Well, let’s see. We’ve got a character with an unbelievable motivation, a guy way too hot to

like a chick with a self-imposed hack-job of a haircut, and world building that I don’t buy for a

second. I mean, genetically-engineered animals? Nice explanation. I give this book zero stars.

*looks at cover again*

Then again, I do like that cover. Five stars!

Violet Miller is a teacher savoring her summer break until she's been called in as emergency reinforcements-of the dating kind. She volunteers to help an old flame by pretending to be his girlfriend. In Alaska. At a family reunion. Since the guy is a handsome, lumberjack-sized doctor she's never quite forgotten, faking a relationship won't be hard work.

Mike Ostranski is a desperate man on vacation. His mother wants grandchildren and sees a crazy Alaskan woman as a candidate for daughter-in-law. Mike needs Violet by his side to deflect the lady's advances.

A week in Alaska as boyfriend and girlfriend should be easy for them. They grew up together, even had a brief fling. What could go wrong?

Everything.

When I started reading this book and saw that the mc, Violet, lives in Bozeman, Montana, I instantly thought of the episode of The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon relocates to Bozeman after having their apartment broken in to. I wondered if maybe the author saw this episode and decided to use it as her backdrop for her gnome series?

Bozeman, Montana. The Most Livable Place.
Bozeman, Montana. The Most Livable Place.

This book has all kinds of things going on in it. From naked neighbors trying to climb in to any where (or on him?) Mike might be, to a mother doing every thing she can to get her son married and some grandbabies out of him.

Violet Miller is a school teacher, who secretly (or maybe no-so-secretly) wants to write word porn (aka erotic romance novels) for a living. She’s afraid of what people will think if she does that, so instead of writing, she took on teaching.  It’s summer time and her sister is off with her boyfriend so Violet is working her sister’s job at the local sex toy shop. Ha! One day she answers the phone at the shop and on the other end is the boy that got away after High School, Mike Ostranski. You see, Mike is up in Alaska at a family reunion, and his mother is crazy desperate for her only child to hurry up and get married and give her some grandbabies. She’s so desperate she’s trying to hook up Mike to his uncle’s crazy, and boy do I mean C-R-A-Z-Y, neighbor.  Mike isn’t too keen on that, and no matter what he says to Susan, the bat shit crazy neighbor, she won’t take the hint and leave him alone. So he’s taken it upon himself to find himself a “girlfriend” and quick, so that he can finally enjoy his family reunion without having to find a crazy naked lady everywhere he goes..
ryan reynolds

This book was like reading a book adaption of the movie ‘THE PROPOSAL”.  Only WAY BETTER..and without the kick ass grandma:

bettywhite

and instead Mike has the dad from Sweet Home Alabama for an uncle:

SWA

Also, we don’t have to watch Sandra Bullock (or as my dad refers to as, Sandra BLECH. Hah.) rap “To the sweat drip down my balls.”

I really enjoyed this book. It was hilarious, especially with scenes with Goldie! The characters were amazing, and holy crap..if it were me, I would’ve had me a french dip with a little au jus..but good for Violet..She has some self control! Hah.  I didn’t realize that this book was a part of an already existing book universe, but apparently the characters from Jennifer Zane’s gnome series are a part of this book. After reading this book, which CAN be read as a stand alone, I am definitely going to be checking out the rest of Jennifer’s books!
I normally don’t go for Gingers but Jennifer Zane made me fall in love hardcore with Mike..might be his “take charge” ways..yum..I love a well written Alpha male.  He was great and I loved him and Violet t, They were good together…

If you like  a good romantic comedy with a tad bit of suspense and drama, I definitely suggest you check this book out!

About Jennifer Zane

Jennifer Zane has lived all over the country–from Georgia to Maryland, New York to Colorado, including an exciting five years in Montana. Her time in Big Sky country was the basis for this book. When she’s not writing, she savors the insanity of raising two boys, is figuring out how many meals she can make with a pressure cooker, and teaches a pretty mean karate class. She currently lives with her family in Colorado.
