YOU CAN BE A VII IF YOU GIVE EVERYTHING.

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister’s niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There’s only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed…and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that’s not her own, she must decide which path to choose—and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she’s only beginning to understand.

Meet Kitty Doe, a 17 year old girl who just took the test that determines what’ s going to happen with the rest of her life. Her test results? A III. NOT what she was expecting, neither was the Job Assignment in Denver which will take her away from D.C. and Benjy. But what she needs to realize is that a III is better than a I, which will get you sent to Elsewhere.

Kitty is given the chance to become  a VII and she hardly even puts some thought into her decision. The next thing you know, she’ s waking up with a brand new face. You see Kitty has been masked, and now she has one of the most powerful faces in the Union.

I really enjoyed this book, it reminded me a lot of the Airhead series by Meg Cabot but with a dystopian twist. It had a lot of backstabbing, betrayal, loyalty and hope. This book had a lot going on it and it kept my attention throughout it. There were some things revealed in the book that were quite shocking and literally had my jaw dropping. In this first book, there wasn’ t much of a romance going on, seeing as Kitty’ s boyfriend Benjy wasn’ t really there for a good chunk of the book. I’ ve read some reviews where people are happy that there isn’ t a Love Triangle (between Kitty, Benjy and Lila’ s fiance Knox), but this is only the first book and I can totally see Kitty and Knox together in the future. I think I might like Knox more than Benjy, though in this book we’ ve gotten to know Knox a bit better than Benjy. Maybe I’ ll change my mind in book 2.  😉 I’ m really looking forward to the next book  and seeing what Kitty will do with Lila’ s face now that’ s she gotten past some obstacles in Pawn.

  2. Amber

Love, love, love all of Aimee’s books! I’m certain she could re-write the phone book and it would be fantastic! 🙂

  3. Aimee is a new-to-me author and I am absolutely thrilled to have found her and her books! My two daughters and I love YA books and are major bookaholics! It is even sweeter that Aimee is a fellow Michigander! I cannot wait to start reading Aimee’s books and sharing them with my daughters and will be adding them to my wish list!

    • Yes! I’m from MI too that’s why I’m giving her book away in celebration of our Blogoversary. The other giveaway I’m doing for is for autographed books from another Michigan Author, Melanie Harlow. Those books are Historical NA though. They take place in 1920s Detroit and the theme is Prohibition/The Mob. Also, this won’t be posted for a few more days, but I will be giving away an autographed copy of Under Different Stars by Amy A. Bartol, who is also a Michigan author as well. 🙂

  4. Wow another awesome author to follow! My tbr and author lists are getting huge but I don’t care. I haven’t read any of her works but I’ll be looking them up now – sigh so much to read and so little time in the day =)

  8. Emma

I haven’t read any of her books yet, but they all have been in my to-read list for a while now.

I have read all of Aimee’s The Goddess Test series, and they were so cool. I usually hate books about Greek mythology because they always get it wrong, but Aimee’s twist to the classics was so inspiring and entertaining, that it didn’t matter if they weren’t spot on to the mythology.
